Acupuncture and Pregnancy
Women having Acupuncture during pregnancy has become increasingly popular. It offers a safe, drug free treatment option during the 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy, when there may be no other treatment option. Moxabustion (Moxa) is part of Chinese Medicine, and will often be used during treatment.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) view pregnancy, childbirth and postnatal recovery as a window of opportunity to enhance the woman’s well being. The focus is placed upon promoting preventative care, to improve the health of both the mother and baby.
Pre-birth Acupuncture 3 – 4 weeks prior to the due date is recommended to commence pre-birth acupuncture. This is followed by a regular treatment each week until labour commences. Acupuncture points will be gently inserted to help prepare the body for labour. Research has shown this type of treatment to bring about an efficient labour.
